Only chilled sparkling wine tastes really good. But too cold is also no good, as this compromises the taste. So: What has to be done? Here's the simple answer: The colour determines the perfect drinking temperature. And it looks like this:

  • between 5 and 7° C for white sparkling wine
  • between 6 and 8° C for rosé sparkling wine
  • between 9 and 11° C for red sparkling wine

And then this: A couple of friends turn up at your door without warning and there’s not a single bottle in the fridge at a suitable temperature? Don’t panic! Here’s a tip from our favourite expert: Simply fill up a sparkling wine cooler with small ice cubes, pour water on top and sprinkle two tablespoons of salt over the whole thing. All done? Then you just have to carefully rotate the bottle in the refrigerated brine by its bottle neck – after about ten minutes, the sparkling wine will have reached the perfect temperature. Incidentally, the professionals call this technique “chilling”.
